Upscale department retailer Nordstrom plans to spend $79 million on a new online and catalogue distribution center in Pennsylvania. Nordstrom said the new warehouse will enable faster delivery of its online, mobile and catalogue orders for customers on the East Coast.

The 672,000 sq ft building in Conewago Industrial Park in Elizabethtown will open its doors in summer 2015. During its first three years, 400 full-time staffers will join the Nordstrom team there, with additional opportunities for part-time and seasonal roles. The retailer eventually plans to employ at least 700 full-time employees at the center in the future.

“Speed of delivery is simply just part of our customers’ expectations of what good service means today,” said Nordstrom Direct President Jamie Nordstrom. “E-commerce is the fastest growing area of our business and this is another example of how we’re investing in people and capabilities to help us support this growth and responding to our customers’ changing definition of service.”

The new facility joins the company’s existing distribution centers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and San Bernardino, Calif. Nordstrom operates 261 stores in 35 states, including 117 full-line stores, 141 Nordstrom Racks, two Jeffrey boutiques and one clearance store.
