Textile and Apparel Imports Down Again but Shipments from Pakistan, Bangladesh Rise

The Department of Commerce’s Office of Textiles and Apparel reports that monthly imports of cotton, wool, manmade fiber, silk blend and non-cotton vegetable fiber textile and apparel products totaled 5.60 billion square meter equivalents in October, down 3.9 percent from September and 1.7 percent from October 2014. Textile imports totaled 3.13 billion SME, down 3.2 percent from September and 3.0 percent from the previous year, while apparel imports of 2.47 billion SME were down 8.2 percent from September but unchanged from a year earlier.

Total year-to-date imports were 54.0 billion SME, up 7.7 percent from the previous year, as textile imports jumped 9.0 percent to 30.8 billion SME and apparel imports gained 6.0 percent to 23.2 billion SME.

For the year ending in October, imports of textiles and apparel totaled 63.2 billion SME, up 7.4 percent from a year earlier. Textile imports rose 8.9 percent to 36.3 billion SME and apparel imports increased 5.4 percent to 27.0 billion SME.

With respect to specific sources, imports of textile and apparel products (except cotton and silk blend textiles) saw the following changes in October.
